The majestic Wat Arun, known as the Temple of Dawn, stands as a brilliant beacon along the Chao Phraya River. While its name suggests the morning, the monument truly transforms as night falls over Bangkok. The central spire reaches toward the heavens, covered in intricate porcelain that reflects the intense artificial floodlights. This architectural masterpiece dominates the horizon with its rhythmic, tiered design.
The surrounding atmosphere feels remarkably serene despite the nearby bustle of Thailand’s capital city. A quiet stillness settles over the water, which acts like a dark mirror, enhanced with the long exposure. The deep teal sky provides a perfect high-contrast backdrop for the warm orange and gold hues. This visual harmony evokes a sense of timelessness and spiritual peace. Visitors often watch from the opposite bank, captivated by the silent grandeur of the illuminated stone.
The glowing temple emerges from the deep teal of the evening sky, creating a striking visual contrast that immediately draws the eye. Reflected in the river below, the architecture takes on an almost ethereal quality, balancing grandeur with serenity. The composition feels both monumental and peaceful, offering a moment of stillness within a dynamic world.
This photograph could provide just the right atmosphere in any room.

Photographer’s Note
“I arrived at the riverside early to search for a suitable location. Finally, just as the sun dipped below the horizon, the floodlights came on. I wanted to capture the exact moment when the sky retains some color but the temple lights fully take over. Using a long exposure was essential to smooth out the ripples of the passing ferry boats. This technique turned the river into a silky, glowing canvas of amber light. I felt a profound sense of calm while waiting for the shutter to click. It is easily one of my favorite views in Bangkok”
