A black and white photograph of abstract folded book pages creates a fan shape reflected on a dark surface.

The Unfolding Story

The symmetry of these abstract folded book pages creates a mesmerizing visual rhythm that bridges the gap between literature and sculpture. This image captures a moment of stillness where paper becomes art. The scene took place in my darkened studio flat where the only light source selectively grazes the curved edges of the paper was a small torch. This intentional lighting highlights the texture of the ink and the crispness of the folds.

The pages of the book are meticulously looped back toward the spine. These individual loops form a fan-like shape that mirrors itself on a reflective surface. Each page catches a silver sliver of light. This creates a high-contrast between deep shadows and brilliant highlights. You can almost feel the physical tension of the paper as it holds its temporary form against the darkness.

The interplay of deep shadows, luminous highlights, and elegant symmetry creates a contemplative atmosphere, and you might well be trying to see what is printed on the pages!

Photographer’s Note

“I spent nearly an hour adjusting the angle of a single LED torch to get this shot just right. I wanted to transform a mundane object into something architectural and grand. Finding the perfect balance on the table was the hardest part. Any slight vibration would ruin the reflection. For me, this photo represents the hidden beauty found within the stories we read every day. I chose black and white to strip away distractions and focus entirely on the geometry of the paper.”
